PARIS--Actor Omar Sharif was convicted of striking a police officer at a casino near Paris and received a one-month suspended sentence, court officials said.
The 71-year-old Egyptian actor also was fined $1,700 on Tuesday for insults and violence directed at a police officer July 5 at the Enghien-les-Bains casino in suburban Paris, a judicial official said.
Le Parisien newspaper reported Sharif was arguing with a croupier while playing roulette at the casino. When an officer asked Sharif to leave, the actor insulted and head-butted him, the paper said.
