LAYTON -- A 13-year-old Layton boy is in juvenile custody after police say he accidentally fatally shot another 13-year-old friend while playing a game with a revolver Friday afternoon.
Police say just after 4 p.m. three friends, the third an 18-year- old, were in the garage of a north Layton home when one of the boys brought out a .357-caliber Magnum revolver, which belonged to a family friend.
Sgt. Rod Dixon said one of the boys took all the ammunition out of the gun, but one boy put one round back in a chamber.
"They were playing what we believe was some kind of Russian roulette-type of game," Dixon said.
Dixon said one 13-year-old pointed the gun at his 13-year-old friend and shot him in the chest, striking him above the heart in the collarbone area.
The boy was rushed to Davis Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Dixon said the other boy was charged Saturday with reckless homicide and is being held at the Farmington Bay Juvenile Correction Center.
