Heavy showers didn't dampen spirits at the Cartier International Polo particularly once guests hit the luncheon tent for the Bellinis. After Prince 'Sicknote' Harry made a miraculous recovery, arriving from Sandhurst's medical wing to help his father's team win the Golden Jubilee Trophy, it was time for lunch and, boy, did the troops get stuck in to the halibut starter, followed by chicken and then a killer pavlova. The sun came out and once all the divots had been replaced it was time to head over to the Chinawhite tent which turned a corner of England (Guards Polo Club) into Ibiza. London's own bratpack (James Purefoy, Orlando Bloom) partied alongside the Sloanes (Freddie Windsor, Prince Harry) until the hog roast: posh bacon sandwiches shored up the Snow Queen vodka cocktails until guests were ferried home after midnight. The ultimate stick and ball.
Square dancing
The launch of B Square B
The Berkeley Square Ball closed in 1989 but reopened last week with a new name, B Square B.
Mean Fiddler's Vince Power, the brains behind the ball, gathered together a top-notch crew to make it go with a bang: Jamie Oliver and Mark Hix did the food, Taittinger provided the champagne and London's smartest parted with Pounds 550 a ticket in aid of the Prince's Trust. Guests were treated to a Jamie-style menu including 'the best mozzarella in the world' (from Puglia), lamb and panna cotta, all prepared by members of his Fifteen team.
Pukka. Burlesque dancers shook their tail feathers and a roulette table kept diners busy, along with an innovative diamond draw which involved trying to spot the real diamond at the bottom of a champagne glass. Damian Lewis put on his blue suede shoes and stole the show with a rousing rendition of Elvis' 'Don't Be Cruel' before leading his girlfriend Helen McCrory to the dancefloor. Not square at all.
What Kate did next
The premiere of 'The Skeleton Key'
Kate Hudson is the latest Hollywood star to lay herself at the mercy of a horror film, this time creeping around a spooky old house in Louisiana although at the premiere of her new film, The Skeleton Key, she seemed perfectly calm as her mother, Goldie Hawn, revved up the crowd beside her.
After the thrills and spills, guests, including Max Beesley, headed to W'Sens for a New Orleans-themed meal including Cajun spiced chicken. Fuelled by loads of Bourbon cocktails, such as the devilish Voodoo, guests ended the evening shaking their bones on the dancefloor.
