LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 3, 2004
The Fourth Annual Celebrity Impersonators Convention at the Imperial Palace Hotel & Casino was highlighted by the real-life marriage between Arnold Schwarzenegger (Lyndall Grant) and Shania Twain (Dianna Paige) in the hotel's new chapel on Tuesday, June 1.
The couple first met at the same event last year and decided the next scene in their life was to spend it together.
The wedding was the culmination of three days of events and workshops for the impersonators and was attended by such big name celebrities (impersonators) as Ozzy Osbourne, Whoopi Goldbert, Kenny Rogers, Sean Connery and more. Standing up for the bride were Tina Turner (Samira) and Barbara Bush (Louise Gallagher). At the groom's side were Jack Nicholson (Jack English) and President George W. Bush (Brent Mendenhall).
The impersonators convention draws dozens of impersonators from across the country to discuss professional tips and secrets. This year's convention featured an informational question-and-answer session with representatives from the Screen Actor's Guild (SAG) and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA).
Expanding the draw for this year's convention was the appearance of Stefan Sambol, who won the trip by taking first place in a celebrity look-alike contest in the UK for his portrayal of motion picture superstar Tom Cruise.
The Imperial Palace hosts the annual event and the convention's Showcase in the Imperial Theatre. Talent buyers, agents and producers from all over the country attend this event, and the chosen performers get a chance to impress the audience with portrayals of stars. This year's Showcase, held on Tuesday, June 1, featured performances by impersonators playing Michael Jackson, Rodney Dangerfield, Beyonce, Britney Spears and others.
The Showcase presented its own special surprise for those in attendance, when Tina Turner impersonator Samira accepted a marriage proposal from her long-time friend and agent Dorian Blinko on stage following her performance.
The Imperial Palace is no stranger to celebrity look-alikes turning heads in its hotel, with the "Legends In Concert" show and Legends Pit, featuring the Dealertainers dealing blackjack. The hotel also hosts a monthly "Be A Legend" Amateur Celebrity Impersonators Karaoke Contest, where entrants vie to take home the top prize of $500 and an audition for "Legends In Concert."
