Goldberg, Goldberg, Goldberg.
That chant always meant the fans wanted their No. 1 star to come out and save the day. Now when the same chant goes up, it's followed by words that make chants aimed at Vince McMahon's family seem tame.
After joining forces with Eric Bischoff and Vince Russo at last Sunday's "Great American Bash" and causing Kevin Nash to lose in his quest for the WCW title, Goldberg went from the most beloved man in the game to the most hated in 30 seconds.
Big Sexy is looking for revenge, and the Nash vs. Goldberg match at "Bash at the Beach" could turn into a world-title match as Goldberg may get the title just long enough to face Nash with the strap on the line. However it goes down, look for the title to change hands rapidly over the next few weeks.
Hulk Hogan has the next shot at Jeff Jarrett and will likely leave that match with the gold. Hogan would then be in line to defend against Goldberg, but Hulk already has done a job for Goldberg in the past and another seems unlikely. All this posturing will eventually set up the big angle for the second half of 2000 as WCW will push Goldberg vs. Scott Steiner.
With the fans on the side of Big Poppa Pump-arguably the most likable character in wrestling-this feud could be one of the best in recent memory.
RATINGS: WWF's "Raw Is War" was the big ratings winner again this week, posting a 6.8 rating off hours of 6.3 and 7.3, while WCW's "Monday Nitro" suffered through another long week-a 3.0 rating with hours of 3.2 and 2.8.
Reports indicate that Turner Sports and the Russo; Bischoff team are at odds again. Ratings are down despite tremendous hype and promises of a turnaround, while the WCW boys continue to claim it's hard to run a quality show when the Turner standards and practices team continues to edit and censor "Nitro" and "Thunder." Tension is now at the point where the rumor mill has Russo leaving the company already.
