The main event is set for next Sunday night's "Summer- Slam," and the deck is stacked against the Rock in his three-way title defense against HHH and Kurt Angle.
The latest rumor, however, has Mick Foley coming to the Rock's rescue as Foley could be announcing a guest referee for the big event-and it would be none other than Stone Cold Steve Austin.
Austin has been seeing doctors recently for opinions on when he can return to the WWF. Reportedly, one doctor told Austin he could return to ring action in eight weeks, so a referee spot at the PPV certainly wouldn't be out of the question.
Other matches confirmed for the show include Y2J against Chris Benoit in a best-two-out-of-three-falls matchup, X-Pac against former partner Road Dogg, Rikishi and 2 Cool will meet Right To Censorship, and in a three-way tag title match Edge and Cristian will defend against the Hardys and Dudleys in the first TLC match-tables, ladders and chairs.
Recently added to the card are matches between the Undertaker and Kane, and Perry Saturn and Al Snow. Also Eddie Guerrero and Chyna will face Trish and Val Venis, and in the first Stink-Face match Terri and the Cat will do battle. The first woman to give her opponent a Stink Face will be declared the winner.
HOGAN LOOKING TO SUE WCW: Word from the WCW locker room is that Hulk Hogan is suing WCW for defamation of character. Most of the animosity stems from the relationship between the Hulkster and Vince Russo, who could be sued by Hogan as well. The last straw was the treatment Hogan received at the last WCW PPV in which Hogan was given a "bogus" belt by Russo after Jeff Jarrett laid down for Hogan in a title match.
BAD WEEK ON TV: "Raw" defeated "Nitro" again this past week, but nobody has any room to cheer over the ratings this time. The WWF was down a full half-point to a 5.9, while the WCW dipped to a 2.4 total, coming closer to that dreaded 2.0 mark.
HEARD AROUND THE RING: Miss Elizabeth, Jim Duggan, Brian Knobbs and Alex Wright are the most recent victims of WCW roster cuts. . . . No new news on the possible jump to USA Network by ECW. Many feel the story was a plant by ECW. . . . Raven is rumored to make his WWF debut at "SummerSlam" and could interfere in the main event, costing the Rock his belt. . . . Buff Bagwell has been sent home by WCW and could be done in that company. . . . The Big Show injured his back and has been shipped to Ohio to work on his conditioning. The loss of the Big Show prompted the heel turn by Kane.
