Despite the recent defection of Kurt Angle from the WWF to the Alliance and the constant feuding between The Rock and Chris Jericho, it looks as if the 10 men who will be competing in the main event at "Survivor Series" now are set in stone.
In what should be announced this week, team WCW/ECW will be U.S champion Angle, WWF champion Stone Cold Steve Austin, Booker T, WWF Hardcore champion Rob Van Dam and the owner of WCW, Shane McMahon.
Team WWF was announced last week on "Raw," but now has been changed as Vince McMahon has entered himself along with Kane, The Undertaker, The Rock and WCW champion Jericho. On paper, with the addition of Angle, the Alliance team seems to be strongest.
However, this is an elimination-style match, so even if a weaker team member loses, his partners stay on to the finish. Logic would say a Rock vs. Austin or Rock vs. Angle finish is likely, but how better to end the "Survivor Series" than to have Shane McMahon going toe-to-toe with Vince McMahon for control of the entire wrestling industry.
Also rumored for the show are matches between Test and Edge for the WWF Intercontinental title, and don't rule out a battle between Matt and Jeff Hardy as things seem to be falling apart for the Hardys with Lita right in the middle of the trouble. Don't expect many matches to be added as the main event probably will last over an hour.
AROUND THE RING: Kanyon suffered a torn ACL during a dark match Monday before "Raw" and could be sidelined up to six months, and Rhyno has opted for back surgery similar to the procedures performed on Stone Cold Steve Austin and Chris Benoit, and he could be gone for most of a year. The return of Benoit and HHH should help lessen the blow to the WWF talent roster. ... With WWF ratings dropping, expect major roster cuts early in 2002. . . . In a recent interview, Rikishi said he has lost 60 pounds since leaving the WWF following his loss to William Regal at "Judgment Day." He continues to recover from injuries and should play a major role in the WWF upon his return.
