JENNIFER LOPEZ has finally come up with an answer to boyfriend Ben Affleck's fondness for gambling - she plans to "police" his stakes at the tables.
Irish American Ben, 31, and acting pal Matt Damon have been hooked on casinos for years and both often gamble with thousands of dollars.
Incredibly though, after threatening to dump her wild fiance, J- Lo, 33, has decided the best way to keep him on the straight and narrow is to become a "gambling cop", and follow him around the casinos of Vegas and Atlantic City to make sure he doesn't lose his shirt.
An insider said: "A few months back, Jennifer refused to be caught dead in a casino, but now she's getting used to his poker playing and is even watching him play.
"She's reluctantly accepting his gambling habit. She thinks she can stop him losing by becoming his gambling cop."
Ben once scooped a mammoth $800,000 jackpot while playing cards, but pals say he usually loses more than he wins.
Last month - accompanied by J-Lo and her mum - he took part in the Showdown Of The Sands poker tournament in Atlantic City, where he took a heavy beating after paying a $10,000 entry fee.
Then, back at the hotel, he is said to have lost more than $50,000 on blackjack.
The insider said: "Jennifer was very upset by the celebrity gambling tournament Ben did last month in Las Vegas.
"She feels it is destructive behavior. In a strong moment, she told him to move out of her Los Angeles house."
Luckily for Ben, Lopez's mum, Guadalupe, has the gambling bug too and persuaded Jennifer to take him back.
Another insider said: "Guadalupe loves Ben. She thinks the sun rises and sets on him."
While in Atlantic City with Jennifer and Ben, Guadalupe is said to have scooped $1,000 on a slot machine, while her mega-rich daughter refused to spend more than 25 cents a time on the machines.
A hotel worker said: "Ben came running to make a big deal of Guadalupe winning.
"J-Lo just looked on with an expression like 'What am I going to do with the two of you?'"
Her tolerance showed signs of waning though when Ben tried to tip a dealer with a $500 chip.
The hotel worker said: "When he threw down the chip, Jennifer lunged onto the table to grab it, asking if he was crazy, says another source.
"She took one of his $100 chips and put that down instead. Ben looked embarrassed. It's her working class Bronx roots. She sees gambling as a total waste of money."
It isn't the first time Affleck has impressed onlookers with his generous tips. When he had the $800,000 windfall on the tables he is said to have tipped dealers $15,000.
