After the events of Monday night concluded, the wrestling world focused its attention on "WrestleMania" and in particular the match between the Rock and Hulk Hogan.
These two had one of the greatest showdowns in history with the building split right down the middle in terms of support, and the ambulance scene notwithstanding, this should be one of (if not the) biggest match in wrestling history--bigger than Hogan/Andre, bigger than Hogan/Warrior, bigger than Rock/Austin, bigger than Hart/ HBK. This match will pit the biggest star in the history of the business vs. the man who could make a run at that very title.
HHH, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Kurt Angle, The Undertaker and Chris Jericho may be big stars, but only the Rock has the national attention, charisma and time on his side. The Rock's claim that this match would determine who is the biggest star of all time is a bit unfair considering Hogan's true prime was 15 years ago, but no doubt this will be a pillar of a huge pay-per-view card. At this point, everything leads to Jericho defending the world title vs. HHH and Angle in a three-way dance, Austin likely going one-on-one with Scott Hall (though Kevin Nash is a possibility), The Undertaker meeting Ric Flair in a fantasy battle for the ages, as well as a tag title match between champions Chuck and Billy and the APA, and Intercontinental and Hardcore title defenses. Like last year, "WrestleMania" will be a four-hour show--and it looks like all four hours will be needed.
AROUND THE RING: Total WWFE revenue for the third fiscal quarter was $100.2 million vs. $111.2 million in the same quarter last year. Net income was $9.4million compared to $11.7 million. ... Kristanna Loken--not Chyna--was chosen to star in the "Terminator" sequel. ... Don't expect to see Chris Benoit or Rhyno before June or July. ... Now that the NWO is on board, plans for the roster split will go forward. Look for the Vince McMahon-led group to continue on Monday nights and the NWO along with the Ric Flair group to take the "SmackDown" time slot on UPN.
HOTLINE: The Rock has recruited the services of a man who defeated Hulk Hogan at "WrestleMania" in the same city 12 years ago. I will reveal the details of the Rock's Ultimate surprise on the hotline: (900) 454-SLAM ($2 per minute).
