Two of the biggest names in wrestling history are in the news as the WWE has shown increased interest in both Bill Goldberg and Bret "The Hitman" Hart.
No surprise that the WWE is on the trail of Goldberg, who has gone from the hottest free agent in wrestling history to the man playing hard to get over the past eight months. Goldberg would be a boost to a struggling company, but the word is Goldberg was not impressed with the HHH/Katie Vick/Kane angle. After seeing the casket angle played out on live TV, Goldberg reportedly said nobody should be surprised he is not with the WWE.
The same has been said about the Rock and Steve Austin, who could be holding out on a WWE return until the product gets a little better. As for Hart, he left following one of the biggest controversies in wrestling history when Vince McMahon called for the bell in a world-title match just to get the belt away from "The Hitman" before he jumped to the WCW. At the time, Hart vowed never again to work for the WWE, but things could be changing. Hart may be looking to return to the spotlight just to show fans he is recovering from his injuries--but for whatever reason, it would be a win for the fans. With Scott Steiner on board and potentially Hart and Goldberg, things could be looking up for the WWE.
AROUND THE RING: Vince Russo no longer is with the NWA-TNA. Word is Russo was demoted to secondary writer behind Jerry Jarrett, a move Russo was not about to make. Could Round 3 in the WWE be next? ... "Macho Man" Randy Savage said recently he felt a return to the WWE was nearly impossible. ... Bad news for the WWE as the NFL has moved its conference-title games to later on Jan. 19--meaning the games will directly conflict with "Royal Rumble." ... Sounds like Chris Jericho and Shawn Michaels will begin a feud after the title match at "Survivor Series." Odds are that leaves Kane, HHH, RVD and Booker T as the only four with a chance at winning.
HOTLINE: I have exclusive details on the Elimination Chamber match at "Survivor Series," and when Hulk Hogan, Rhyno and Vince McMahon will make their returns to the WWE. It's all on the hotline: (900) 990-SLAM ($2 per minute).
