True crime
Can't get a good seat to see the Utes? Don't want to pay $100 for a close-up view of the Jazz?
Just pretend you're a reporter (I know I do).
Stories say Mark Sabia covered New York sports for years, representing Westchester Cable Services. One problem: Westchester Cable Services doesn't exist, according to prosecutors.
Sabia was charged with numerous counts, including criminal impersonation and falsifying business records.
Oh, yeah. And two counts of wearing Craig Sager's sports jacket.
In the beginning
A new San Francisco 49ers ad features ex-Ute Alex Smith.
The ad, designed to attract season-ticket buyers, says, "In 25 years, you'll want to say, 'I saw his first game.'"
Wait a minute. We already did see his first game.
It was when Ronnie Mac wasted a year's eligibility by slipping him into a game during the 2002 season, right?
Flop house
Sacramento Kings coach Rick Adelman is fed up and isn't going to take it any more.
Last week he sounded off about poor officiating in his team's series against Seattle. He complained there's too much physical play and flopping by the Sonics.
"They've (the officials) allowed too much to happen. It's ridiculous what they're allowing to happen," Adelman said.
Yeah, right. This from the guy who used to coach Vlade Divac . . .
A dress for success?
Sonics coach Nate McMillan fired back at Adelman, Sunday, saying, "Playoff basketball, you don't play in skirts."
Well, at least not since Dennis Rodman was in the league.
Y. not?
Former Cornhusker football coach Tom Osborne is going for it. He's running for governor of Nebraska.
Now that the barn door's open, c'mon, LaVell, why not give it a shot in '08?
It's a gamble
Speaking of gubernatorial races, Charles Barkley tells CNBC's Tim Russert why he hasn't run for office in Alabama: "I saw what the governor makes. That's like four hands of blackjack."
Wade-ing in
As if he weren't hot enough already, Miami Heat guard Dwayne Wade was named one of People magazine's "50 Most Beautiful People" last week.
Wade said he's going to make sure his teammates hear about it, too.
"I might hand deliver it to their rooms," he said.
He hand delivered their first-round series, didn't he?
Frankly, my dear
On this date in 1937, Margaret Mitchell won a Pulitzer for "Gone With the Wind."
And no, it's not about what happened to Barry Bonds' urine specimen.
