Chicago Sun-Times: Kane and Shane warming up for a rare Inferno match

It happened again on "Raw" last week -- the WWE went too far. That was the opinion of many following the electrocution angle played out by Kane against Shane McMahon.

Shane's zapping came on the heels of Kane being kicked into a burning dumpster (somehow escaping without a mark on him) the week before. As we were told, when the fire was put out and the paramedics looked inside the dumpster, Kane mysteriously was gone. It is now a safe bet this has gone on long enough, and these two need to settle the score and do it in a manner that puts the feud to rest for good.

So, for the second time in wrestling history, we will see an Inferno match. In an Inferno match, the ring is surrounded by flames that seem to get more intense as the action picks up. The first man using any means to get his opponent close enough to the flames to catch on fire is the winner.

This is all new for Shane, but Kane not only is friendly with fire, he is one of two men who can say they have been in such a match. It was the 1998 In Your House "Unforgiven" PPV when the Undertaker defeated Kane in the first Inferno match. Kane's arm caught on fire while outside the ring, and he quickly ran to the back before any damage could be done.

Also at the 2003 "Unforgiven," HHH likely will drop the world title to Goldberg, and Shawn Michaels will face off vs. Randy Orton. At this match, we could see the beginning of the end of Evolution as HHH and Orton will have a falling out leading up to "Survivor Series."

HEARD AROUND THE RING: Sounds like Mick Foley is missing wrestling more than he expected, and his return to the ring could come sooner than later. ... Kanyon is coming back to the WWE, but it will be as Mortis, not Chris (who's better than) Kanyon. ... In the next two weeks, Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar will battle in the first-ever "1 Hour Ironman" match on free TV. With no PPV event for quite awhile, "SmackDown" will offer the match during the first hour of the show. ... Speaking of "SmackDown" brand PPV events, the Oct. 19 "No Mercy" show is being advertised with Undertaker vs. Lesnar for the WWE title. ... When Randy Orton takes over Evolution, look for Batista and Maven to join the group. ... Sting will return to the NWA this month and should win the title in the first week or two after arriving.
