Vince McMahon still has not decided what the main event at WrestleMania XX will be, and time is running out. Granted, there are dozens of possibilities. But with the Royal Rumble right around the corner, the decision must be made in the next week.
The WWE has announced that the Rumble will be a 30-man event (15 from the SmackDown" roster and 15 from the Raw" roster) with a new participant every two minutes. The winner will get a title shot against the champion of his organization at WrestleMania.
The Rumble title matches have been announced, with HHH defending the Raw" title against Kane and Brock Lesnar putting the SmackDown" title on the line against Bob Holly. That means Kane will be out of the picture unless the WWE plans on staging a Kane-Undertaker main event at WrestleMania, and I'm not sure Holly is main-event caliber for WrestleMania. That leaves HHH or Lesnar as half of the main event.
If the WWE were to ask me for my opinion, I would leave it up to the Rumble winner to decide which title he wants to go after. That would offer the possibility of two matches I think would be worthy of headlining such a big show.
First would be Kurt Angle winning the Rumble and challenging HHH for the Raw" title. Angle's character is better suited for Raw," and this would let him interact again with Stone Cold" Steve Austin to duplicate some of the most memorable moments in Raw" history.
The other possibility would be Goldberg winning the Rumble, jumping to SmackDown" and squaring off against Lesnar. The hole in this is that Goldberg and the WWE are on the outs, and there is no guarantee that Goldberg will be around in January.
