The on-again, off-again NWA-TNA "Bound for Glory" pay-per-view event now seems set for a Sunday night in April, despite Hulk Hogan turning his back on the company. Originally scheduled for late 2003, the show has been moved back repeatedly to accommodate a Hogan-Jeff Jarrett main event, but they will wait no more and have added some even bigger names to take his place.
First off, Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher will make his TNA debut Wednesday night in the corner of his good friend Erik Watts. Watts will face Don Callis in a match for full authority in the company. Watts has warned Callis not to cross Urlacher or he will become a tackling dummy.
As for the "Bound for Glory" show itself, the NWA has added a big name by announcing that country music star Toby Keith will perform live on the show. Names such as Keith and Urlacher give NWA-TNA some extra credibility.
The third name you may know is Jonny Fairplay of "Survivor" fame, who made his debut last week. Fairplay took little time to cement himself as a heel in the company by talking down many of the wrestlers and fans in attendance before meeting a powerbomb from A.J. Styles. Fairplay will play a big role in the coming weeks and is another example of the NWA consistently putting on a good show.
HEARD AROUND THE RING: This weekend is the WWE "Royal Rumble," and Goldberg still is the overwhelming favorite to win the battle royal and go on to face Brock Lesnar at "WrestleMania." However, the relationship between Goldberg and the WWE continues to deteriorate, and it is unlikely he will be with the company after WMXX. ... During a meeting right before the "SmackDown" tapings last week, Vince McMahon ripped into the roster about leaking inside information to Internet writers and even threatened to fire anyone who dished the scoop. ... Though nothing is set in stone, Mick Foley is expected to appear at the Rumble tonight.
HOTLINE: I have up-to-the-minute news regarding last-minute changes to the "Royal Rumble" main event and the latest on three surprise participants the WWE is trying to sign in time for the Rumble. It's all on the hotline: (900) 990-SLAM ($2 per minute).
