When Hulk Hogan told the NWA he wasn't available for its first- ever three-hour Sunday night PPV the first time, they moved it back. When he told the NWA he wouldn't be ready the second time, they moved it again. But when Hogan told the NWA he couldn't make it a third time, they went out and convinced Macho Man Randy Savage to take on Jeff Jarrett for the NWA/TNA World title at the "Bound for Glory" show.
Jarrett and company decided they no longer could wait for an aging icon to decide when it would be just right for him, so they go on without him. In fact, the whole matter made the NWA look a bit second rate if in fact Hogan was pushing off the show to leave the door open for an appearance at "WrestleMania XX." After all, we are not talking about a guy like Kurt Angle or Shawn Michaels who can get it done in the ring. Hogan would be all about the hype, and once the match starts -- well, we all know the rest of the story.
And the NWA/TNA won't stop there as I hear it is considering bringing in a whole crew of WWE stars to see if they can duplicate the success the WCW had when it ran the WWE invasion of WCW angle years ago. With the WWE roster in flux, this just might work. Now all the NWA/TNA has to do is get wrestling fans to tune in just once - - and have the confidence that once will be enough to get them to come back for more.
