There is no question Evolution has been on the ropes ever since Randy Orton decided to leave the group, but it now could be on the verge of extinction. It is starting to look like Batista is tiring of all the HHH decision-making and is starting to realize his only chance to gain main-event attention is to leave the shadow of Hunter and Ric Flair.
Since the Orton defection, Evolution has made little attempt to replace the former world champ, and the three-man unit is just not as strong as when there were four. On at least a half-dozen occasions this year, HHH made bad decisions that Batista questioned but was told to just follow along. Many of those decisions clearly were all about HHH and regaining the World title, and that fact was not lost on the Evolution powerhouse.
When Batista finally sees the light, look for shockwaves through the WWE. He immediately will become a top contender for the World title and will make HHH extremely vulnerable. Evolution may try to recruit new members, but it never will be the same as the original.
AROUND THE RING: Kevin Nash recently was quoted as saying he is back in wrestling just to stick it to Vince McMahon. ... Ric Flair suffered a ruptured blood vessel in his leg and will miss most of this month. ... The WWE has been strongly considering bringing back the old WCW War Games-style match; it is a kind of reverse "Survivor Series" deal in which the match starts with two men, then one participant enters every five minutes into a huge, double-ring/ double-steel cage. ... John Cena will begin a long feud with Jesus while Carlito rehabs. ... Stone Cold Steve Austin recently said he would be open to a return to the WWE, but he is focused on his acting career at this time.
