Chicago Sun-Times: Elimination chamber to decide title

When the WWE invades Puerto Rico for the "New Year's Resolution" pay-per-view event Jan. 9, the now vacant "Raw" championship will be decided in the most brutal match in the WWE -- the elimination chamber.

The chamber, an invention of GM Eric Bischoff, is a six-sided cage with small booths on all sides, each holding a WWE superstar. Every five minutes, one door at random opens, allowing another participant into the match. Obviously, the first two are at an extreme disadvantage -- and whoever is in the chamber that opens last is a heavy favorite to become the new WWE champion.

As of now, the match would include HHH, Edge, Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho and Randy Orton. Batista likely would be the final entry, and he would scare HHH considering his loyalty to Evolution being so up in the air. Batista -- tired of being bossed around by HHH -- would have a title shot without facing HHH in a singles match.

Coming just three weeks before the "Royal Rumble," the "Resolution" will set the tone for 2005.

AROUND THE RING: Paul Heyman recently said he really doesn't know what his status is in the WWE, and that he seems to go from the company's top booker to a guy riding out his contract from day-to- day. ... TNA management warned its wrestlers not to listen to rumors regarding the company's financial status, but many just hope the company doesn't blow its entire budget on guys like Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, Randy Savage and DDP, and has enough to give the young talent a chance to get TNA some mainstream attention. ... Wouldn't it make more sense for the WWE to leave Maven as a fan favorite and just let him grow into a bigger star?
