The relationship between WWE chairman Vince McMahon and Stone Cold Steve Austin always has been explosive. But no matter how many times things erupt between the two, they seem to find a way to join forces in the end.
As first mentioned Monday night on "Raw," WWE held a Hollywood press conference to announce the two have agreed on a three-picture deal under the WWE Films banner. Austin's first project will be "The Condemned," a story dealing with a cop on death row who is given a second chance when chosen to compete on a deadly reality show.
Sounds like McMahon is convinced he has cornered the market on action stars, as WWE Films will release movies starring John Cena and Kane in the coming months. The WWE has high hopes for a Kane film titled "Goodnight" -- a horror movie WWE Films hopes will lead to a series with Kane as an unstoppable monster like Freddy or Jason. Cena will be featured in "The Marine," due out later in 2005.
HEARD AROUND THE RING: New Jack has been telling people he is on his way to WWE to begin a role as the bodyguard for Muhammad Hassan and Khosrow Daivari, and New Jack could be on "Raw" by the end of February. ... The WWE will hold the "Judgment Day" PPV in Minneapolis in May, and already the speculation about a Brock Lesnar return is spreading. ... Sounds more and more likely that Hulk Hogan will be a part of the WWE Hall of Fame inductions and "WrestleMania 21"; now the suits need to find a story line for the Hulkster.
