LAS VEGAS is where pop stats traditionally finish their careers, not start them. But that hasn't stopped Sin City quartet the Killers from igniting MTV and radio with "Somebody Told Me," the catchiest adventure ill gender confusion ("Somebody told me / You had a boyfriend / Who looks like a girlfriend / That I had in February of last year") since Blur's "Girls and Boys." The Killers got together in late 2002 and boned their chops playing at Vegas's largest gay bar, Tramps, until a U.K. label snapped them up.
Since release of their debut album, Hot Fuss, life has only accelerated for singer-keyboard player Brandon Flowers--who cites Morrissey and the Pet Shop Boys among his influences--and company. With kudos including a British top 10 single, a prestigious Shortlist Prize nomination and an appearance on The O.C., all that's left is for someone to build the Killers their own casino theater.
