The frigid temperatures of Kansas did not deter students from the MTNA West Central Division competitions January 14-16 at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. The event could not have happened without everyone's dedication and cooperation Diana Skroch, NCTM. North Dakota, chaired the competitions with assistance from coordinators Paul Reed, NCTM, Bill Lipke and Cheryl Koch. NCTM. Special thanks are extended to our University of Kansas hosts, Jack Winerock and Christopher Hepp, and Linda Featherston, NCTM. Kansas MTA president hospitality and monitor chair. The time given by the numerous monitors and other volunteers is gratefully acknowledged.
West Central Division congratulates the Pikes Peak MTA in Colorado Springs, Colorado, recipient of the 2005 MTNA Local Association of the Year Award.
Three states in the division are looking forward to their 2005 conferences: Colorado State MTA will hold its annual conference at the University of Colorado, Boulder June 2-4, with Barbara Lister-Sink, NCTM, as guest artist. Minnesota MTA will meet at the Mystic Lake Casino Hotel in Prior Lake June 6-7. Master classes will be offered for performing teachers, string and chamber musicians, vocalists and pianists. Winerock will be the guest artist at the Iowa MTA conference June 12-14, at Wartburg College n Waverly.
