Morrisville State College has developed a gaming institute which will serve to train those interested in the casino industry in techniques of table-game dealing procedures.
The Morrisville Gaming Institute (MGI) will offer noncredit courses which will prepare students for entry-level gaming positions. Classes are held in the college's gaming laboratory in Brooks Hall on Route 20 in Morrisville. Peter LaMacchia, an instructor in Morrisville State College's gaming and casinomanagement degree program, will instruct the courses. MGI is approved by the New York State Racing and Wagering Board.
In May, classes will be offered in the following table games: Blackjack, Baccarat, Mini-Baccarat, Pai Gow Poker, Caribbean Stud Poker, Let-It-Ride Poker, and Three Card Poker.
Day and evening classes are available Monday through Saturday. Course fees begin at $80 and range to $1,800 for a special 12-game course.
In addition to providing certification classes, MGI will offer casinomanagement seminars in a variety of topics, including human-resource management, table-game protection, surveillance fundamentals, biometrics, and employee motivation.
For more information or to register for classes, contact LaMacchia at the MGI at (315) 684-6393 or e-mail mgi@ morrisville.edu.
