THE STRIP AT LAS VEGAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY, Las Vegas (May 12-14) - A three-day run of drag racing at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway came to an end at 11:10 p.m. Saturday following a busy weekend that included the Thursday Night Street Wars, GlobePC.com Show 'n' Go Friday, and Meadow Gold NHRA Jr. Dragster Series presented by Short Line Express Markets and Jerry's Nugget Championship Drag Racing Series events.
The weekend kicked off with the third session of Thursday Night Street Wars, a program designed to attract street racers to the safer confines of an organized dragstrip. Brian Bahl won the final and $100 prize.
GlobePC.com Show 'n' Go Friday winners included Charlie Boyd (Open Comp), Robert Godicin of the U.S. Air Force (American Hero), Chris Naffziger (Super Quick), Kayla Sewell (High School), Jon Whittington (Pure Stock), Colt Dwyer (Bracket Gambler), and Jett Dwyer (Jr. Dragster Run for the Prize).
Saturday winners in the Jerry's Nugget Championship Drag Racing Series included Naffziger (Super Pro), Michael Jackson (Pro), Las Vegas police officer KyIe Hirschi (Street), Leo Shaver (Motorcycle), and Billy Fraker (Sport Compact). Run for the Money winners were Robin Harris, Vince Terrano, and Lisa Niswonger.
Jerry's Nugget Reaction Time Bonus awards were won by Bob Moudree (Pro), Shawn Lavery (Super Pro), Shaver (Motorcycle), Sewell (Street), and BiUy Fraker (Sport Compact). The $25 award (good toward anything in the casino) is presented to the racer who posts the best reaction time on a winning run in the first round of eliminations. In addition, all final-round winners receive $20 gift certificates for Uncle Angelo's Pizza Joint, located inside the casino.
Saturday morning winners in the Meadow Gold NHRA Jr. Dragster Series presented by Short Line Express Markets were Frank Randell (Thunder) and Jett Dwyer (Lightning). - John Bisci
