The Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) Council announced that Senator Conrad Burns (R-MT), a leading proponent of rural broadband deployment, will be the keynote speaker at this year's FTTH Conference & Expo.
The fourth annual FTTH Council Conference & Expo will be held October 3-6 at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. The FTTH Conference is the premier event for advancing residential broadband access in North America. Conference speakers are industry luminaries, government decision-makers, and optical fiber network implementers.
Senator Burns, currently in his third term in the Senate, is known for his aggressive agenda in telecommunications policy, including co-sponsorship of the U.S. Department of Agriculture broadband loan program, broadband tax incentives, anti-spamming legislation, and E911 requirements. Burns is a senior member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, and serves Chairman of the Senate Interior Appropriations subcommittee.
During his congressional career, Burns has focused heavily on the Communications sector and has been praised as "one of the fathers of the modern Internet."
"We are delighted to have Senator Burns join us at this year's conference and kick off the event as our opening speaker," said FTTH Council President Leonard Ray.
