Where do MTNA members go during the summer for renewal, refreshment and recharging? If you live in Colorado, Iowa or Minnesota, the first answer might well be "to the annual state conference." Can you think of a better place for networking with peers, listening to inspiring speakers, learning about creative teaching ideas and hearing first-rate performances by students as well as concert artists?
The Colorado State MTA Conference was held at the University of Colorado, Boulder June 2-4. Highlighting the conference was guest artist Barbara Lister-Sink, who presented a workshop, conducted a master class and performed in a recital. The annual Professional Reading Enrichment (PREP) seminar dealt with the subject of changing parenting styles and their effects on teaching.
Iowa MTA members met at Wartburg College, in Waverly, June 12-14. Conference artist Jack Winerock discussed the art of pedaling. He also gave a recital and worked with students in a master class. Attendees were treated to workshops about repertoire, studio policies and preparing for performances, as well as a recital by the Wartburg faculty.
Mystic Lake Casino Hotel in Prior Lake Minnesota. was the setting for Minnesota MTA's early-June conference "Music, The Future is Now." Presenters included members of the Minnesota MTA, with John and Nancy Weems of Houston, Texas, as convention artists. Sessions about technology, in addition to workshops for instrumentalists and vocalists, provided avenues for growth in numerous areas.
