Ipswitch, a developer of network management, messaging and file transfer solutions, announced on Monday (15 August) a decrease in the volume of spam over the summer period.
According to the results of a survey, 74% of e-mail received over the summer period was unwanted spam, a decrease from 93% over the Easter period. According to the survey, the mortgage and loan spam remained most popular but its volume fell from 44% in the previous period to 33% of spam emails this time. Second remained emails offering medication (up from 18% to 22%). Third were emails attempting to 'phish' recipients' banking details with claims of lottery wins and online gambling accounts (12.5% up from 9%), while various pornographic offers also totalled 12.5%. In last place was spam offering pirated software with 9% of the total spam received.
