While I admit that Elizabeth Svoboda hits a home run with her article "Ladies Who Lotto" (February), she nevertheless strikes out with her lead-in comments on Matt Damon's character, Mike, in the film Rounders. While I in no way minimize the dangers of gambling, as Mike points out, elite poker players are novel in that they do not rely on luck or chance. They posit that their craft is equal parts art and science. Mike's "downfall" is not gambling but blind loyalty to his friend.
