Australian politicians are getting hot under the collar about internet gambling, variously calling for total bans, site restriction for minors, and regulatory legislation. Federal treasurer, Peter Costello has announced an inquiry into the social impact of gambling, and senator Amanda Vanstone, federal minister for justice, said online gambling would probably be addressed as part of this. She also said the federal government would introduce licensing and regulations to govern the budding industry. The regulatory framework would, she said, match the laws that already apply to terrestrial gambling.
