Eighth-grade students in Louisiana are the focus of a pilot program aimed at educating kids on the risks and futility of gambling using mathematics and real life examples as a basis for lessons.
"Facing the Odds: The Mathematics of Gambling" brings the state into compliance with a 1999 law that requires public and private schools to teach students the dangers and problems linked with gambling.
The program, funded by a $70,850 contract with the Massachusetts Council on Compulsive Gambling, begins this spring.
