Up to one in four children in the UK who use the Internet are regularly visiting gambling and pornography web sites, according to a new report from NetValue.
The study looked at the surfing habits of over 300 under-17s in March and indicated that 382,000 of Britain's 1.5m young web users had visited a site dedicated to gambling, while 290,000 had looked at a pornography site. Of these, 9% visiting gambling sites and 8% viewing pornography were under 10, reported PA News.
The findings of the research have led to fresh calls for legislation to prevent children from being able to access adult-only material so easily.
The survey also revealed that half of all UK web users under the age of 17 visited music and literature web sites in March, and 40% logged on to games sites.
