Certain members of the US Congress will put forth legislation this year in order to prevent on-line gambling. They will use two strategies, either ban on-line gambling outright or prevent the use of credit cards for on-line wagering. At issue is the fact that Internet gambling is "unregulated, untaxed, illegal, and often at an offshore location". In addition, on-line gambling undermines the authority of individual states who have legalized gambling. Past bills proposing to ban on-line gambling have passed the Senate, but died in the House of Representatives.
